Quarter 4 Week 1 / March 29 – April 2, 2021

 

Monday, March 29

Writing:

Rules and welcome back
ISAT prep ppt (from Chrissy at East) – 5 slides (discuss) (Ended up just doing a couple of slides for most classes because it took up too much time.
Review sentence structure vocabulary. Review simple, compound 1, and compound 2 sentences.  Sing the FANBOYS song.
Ticket out the door: Write one of each type of sentence-(Found out they were very confused and so we decided to continue this the next day.)

Tuesday, March 30

Writing:

Started out having them circle the independent clauses and punctuation for their CD 1 and 2 sentences from yesterday. We practiced the patterns and reviewed. Then we practiced run on/comma splices using the sentences Billy Bob fell off his horse he broke his arm. I showed different ways to solve the runon. Then in their table groups, they worked on #1-3 on the worksheet. We wrote the answers up on the screen and talked about the options.Editing Practice Worksheet– work with a partner, but everyone must do their own. Do number 1-3 today. While students are working, teacher will check compound 1 sentence from yesterday.
Go over it– put corrections on the screen and students must fix their copy. Turn it in.
Review sentence structure vocabulary. Review complex sentences.  Sing the AAAWWUBBIS song.
Ticket out the door: Write one of each type of complex sentence.

 

 

Thursday, April 1

Writing:

Quizzez Game-Sentence Structures
 
Get out your sentences (sentence structure practice in notebook) from yesterday.(Have them write a CX sentence using Because )
Editing Practice Worksheet– work with a partner, but everyone must do their own. Do numbers 4-6 today.
Go over it– put corrections on the screen and students must fix their copy. Turn it in.
In your group, choose the best complex sentence and write it on the board.
Look at and discuss all of the sentences as a class.

 

Friday, April 2

Writing:

Get out your sentences (sentence structure practice in notebook) from yesterday.
Editing Practice Worksheet– work with a partner, but everyone must do their own. Do numbers 7-10 today.
Go over it– put corrections on the screen and students must fix their copy. Turn it in.

As a class, write claims for these prompts:

Do social media websites cause more harm than good?
Should public schools have separate classes for girls and boys?

Stations:

Travel with a partner
8 stations around the room – choose 3
Write the questions in your notebook

Back at desks:

For each question, write one claim FOR, one claim AGAINST, and one ALTHOUGH claim

Students will take their work from the last 2 days (the outline) and write an essay that includes: Intro, Body, Counterclaim/Rebuttal, and conclusion. It is due Friday at the end of the period. This is for a grade to be added to their other W.1assignments to determine their scores for argument writing. L.2 will also be assessed (conventions/spelling)

Write a short story.  When everything is in MLA format, the story must be at least two pages.

It must have a beginning, middle, and end with a conflict.  It could be a personal narrative or a made-up story, but it must be a single moment in time and it must be school appropriate.
