Lone Star Middle School has been selected as an HP Spotlight School thanks to a collaboration between Digital Promise Global Joins HP and Microsoft. It is one of only two schools in the nation with this distinction.
HP Spotlight Schools are characterized by their innovative, meaningful, and replicable applications of technology for learning. Lone Star was selected for its exemplary use of technology to provide personalized, authentic learning for students and will serve as a model of powerful teaching and learning for schools and districts nationwide.
As part of this designation, Digital Promise Global will provide 40 hours of professional development for teacher-leaders at the school. Digital Promise Global also will donate a customized HP Learning Studio outfitted with technology for student-centered making and design, including media production, VR, and digital fabrication.
Gus Schmedlen, vice president for education at HP Inc., noted that the company’s recent study on Idaho’s education and workforce determined that the most valued workforce skills include grit, determination, adaptability, and personal responsibility. “We look forward to seeing how Lone Star Middle School’s teachers, school leaders, and parents use our findings to inform how they prepare collaborative, engaged, and agile students who will fill the jobs of the future in this fast-growing and beautiful state,” he said.
Superintendent Paula Kellerer added, “We value and are grateful for our relationship with HP, IBE and Digital Promise and are excited about the incredible opportunities it affords our students and district. Relationships like these unite the public and private sectors in a common goal to support and equip our students with the skills they need to successfully transition to the next stage of their lives.”
